Beaches, Nature & Culture

Beaches

Famara
1500 m of fine golden sand. Probably the most beautiful beach in the island. A natural stunning scene. From the 3 kms long beach at Famara, you'll see the islands of La Graciosa, Alegranza and Montaña Clara in the distance.

Las Cucharas
This tranquil beach, whose 640m of golden sands are protected by breakwaters, sits in the heart of Costa Teguise, the island's second major tourist area. The large hotels and apartment complexes are typical of the integration of architecture and landscape to be found in Lanzarote where man and nature are placed in harmony. It is also one of the favourite beaches for windsurfers.

El Jablillo
350m. of fine white sand and gravel in Costa Teguise; windy.

Bastian Beach
400m. of fine white sand and gravel; in Las Caletas.

Papagayo Beach
Located in a protected natural area in Yaiza. Isolated beach and without services. Golden sands and calm waters. Many hours of sun during the year.

Chinijo Archipielago

The "Chinijo Archipelago" is made up of a group of islets known as La Graciosa, Alegranza and Montaña Clara, together with the East and West Roques.
However, only La Graciosa has a resident population of some 500 inhabitants dedicated to fishing and to a lesser extent to tourism.

Jameos del Agua

One of the most interesting galleries of connecting caves and underground grottoes in the world lies to the north of Lanzarote, at the foot of the volcano Monte de la Corona which erupted around 3.000 years ago.

"Jameos" means bubbles of lava. A jameo is formed when a tunnel ceiling collapses, most often occurring when its width exceeds twenty meters, or when gases accumulate and explode.

Mirador del Río

César Manrique designed the "Mirador del Río" in 1973, together with Jesús Soto and the architech Eduardo Cáceres, which was considered at the time an architechtural work of great value and interest.
To the North of the island, 600 metres ofheight right in front of the Famara cliff: one can see the immensity of the Atlantic Ocean, stiched by the island "LA GRACIOSA" and the group of islets Alegranza, Montaña Clara, Roques Del Este and Oeste, which have been declared Seacoast Reserve.

Cactus Garden

The Cactus Garden was the last work of César Manrique, finished in Lanzarote in 1991. In 1973 the artist had already restored the mill that ornaments the limits of the Centre, with the idea of changing some semiburied volcanic monoliths into the main sculptures of a beautiful garden.
